HCV Genotyping Kit
Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a leading cause of chronic liver disease (CLD) that can progress to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. HCV genotyping constitutes the basis for the clinical management of infected patients by providing a predictor of response to therapy and to decide on the length of time required for antiviral treatment.
HCV is classified into six major genotypes (1-6), many subtypes (a, b, c, etc.), and about 100 different strains (1,2,3, etc.) based on the genomic sequence heterogeneity. HCV genotype 3 and genotype 1 were found to be the predominant genotypes in the Indian sub-continent. Genotype 4 and genotype 6 appeared to show some geographic restriction. Genotype 1 and 4 are generally associated with a poor response to interferon alone, whereas genotypes 2 and 3 are associated with more favorable responses.
Mylab Discovery Solutions PathoDetect HCV genotyping kit utilizes real time RT PCR method for determining the genotype(s) of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in plasma from HCV-infected individuals. The test detects subtypes 1a and 1b of genotypes 1 using NS5B region and genotypes 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 by targeting 5′ UTR region of HCV. The kit performance is verified with NIBSC 3rd HCV RNA Genotype Panel.
